Joe Kokenakes

I graduated from Clinton High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University, where I majored in history, with minors in political science and English. I also obtained my master’s degree from EMU in Secondary Education.

As a former educator for over ten years, I have experience in various roles –  as a paraprofessional in Chelsea; a 6th grade English teacher and 7th grade Global Studies teacher at Onsted Middle School; a 9th grade English, World Literature, and AP US History teacher at Onsted High School, while also serving as the JV golf and Varsity wrestling coach; and most recently, a high school teacher at Madison High School in Adrian, where I taught 9th, 10th, and 11th grade English, US History, World History, Civics, and Sophomore Seminar (a postsecondary exploration course). Three years ago, I made the transition to the private sector where I now serve as lead estimator and manager at a construction company and work with various skilled tradespeople.

Why I am running for the School Board

As a Tecumseh resident for the past five years, I am running for school board to offer a fresh perspective to a community that clearly is passionate about their school system. It is my belief that students are our future’s greatest resource; therefore, I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to invest my time and effort for current and future students, as well as for the growth of the community overall. I look forward to the chance to not only serve in education again, but to also continue the efforts of so many who have made Tecumseh a special place to live, work, and learn.
